How to write better AI prompts

What makes a good AI prompt?

A good prompt states the role, the task, the context, the format and the limits. Weak output is usually a missing detail rather than a weak model, so the fastest improvement is adding the audience, the format and one example of what good looks like.

The five part structure

  • Role. Who the model should act as.
  • Task. The single thing you want done.
  • Context. Audience, product, market, tone, any real numbers.
  • Format. Length, structure, language, where it will be used.
  • Limits. What to avoid, and what must stay accurate.

Worked example, business writing

Weak prompt: write a caption for my skincare business.

Stronger prompt: act as a copywriter for a small Lagos skincare brand. Write three Instagram captions for a shea butter cream priced at four thousand naira, for women aged twenty two to thirty five with dry skin. Each caption under forty words, simple English, one clear benefit, end with a question. Do not invent results or medical claims.

Prompting for images and video

Visual models respond to nouns and light, not adjectives about quality. Describe subject, action, camera, light and mood. Asking for masterpiece or ultra realistic adds little. Describing soft window light from the left changes the frame.

Iterate instead of restarting

That saved library is the whole idea behind the AI Prompt Room in AI Village. Tested prompts, grouped by job, so nobody starts from a blank box.

  1. 1. Keep what worked

Tell the model which part to keep before you ask for changes.

  2. 2. Change one thing

One change per attempt tells you what actually caused the difference.

  3. 3. Save the winner

Store the final prompt with a note on the task it solved.

Questions people ask

What is an AI Prompt Room?

In AI Village it is a shared and organised collection of tested prompts for video, images, content, marketing, business and productivity, so members reuse what already works.

Should prompts be long?

Long enough to remove guesswork, not longer. Detail that changes the output is useful, and decoration is not.

Learn this with people, not alone

AI Village runs a weekly practical class, keeps a shared prompt library, and reviews the work you submit. The Founding Villager membership is ₦5,000 monthly and the first 20 seats are open now.
